Hey there, I have a 1967 Evinrude 60 HP Sportfour. I am wanting to fire it up to test run, (at idle only) and I want to make sure I am supplying water to the right pick-up. Just above the prop on the left side of the lower unit, I have a removable plate approx. 1" by 6". In that plate there is a screened slot about 3/8" by 2". This looks to me to be the water pick-up. Am I correct? My Secor manual doesn't show this well. Thanks Zeph

Zeph..... On that model, forget the flushette adapter. Instead use a plastic trash can and have the water lever above the lower unit retaining bolt area by about 3 " or so. The water pump sits directly on top of the lower unit.

You might need a Rubbermaid storage bin to fit the lower end into the water. Tip the front of the trailer up to lower the motor into the water.

p.s. I don't live on a hill, the photo is rotated for clarity

Thanks guys, your info helped. Now I need to clean up the fuel system, If I pull a very small amount of premix into the carb, it will fire, but I'm not drawinf fuel through from the tank even when primed with bulb. I'll track down a new diaphraghm, and replace the fuel lines and check again... Man this is a great site..........Zeph

Sounds like you need to give the carburetor a thorough cleaning by disassembling and blowing out all orifices. If it has sat idle for a year or more, the gas will have gone stale and likely varnished the inside of the carburetor.
The engine should receive fuel and start by pumping up the primer bulb alone. After it's running the fuel pump will keep the "go juice" flowing. An engine will keep running after you disconnect the tank line since it's using the fuel that's in the bowl. Same thing happens when starting. The fuel pump just keeps the bowl filled. You're filling the bowl when you pump the bulb.
