When was the last time you replaced the water pump and thermostats? Water coming out of the exhaust or drain holes is not the best indication of the performance of the water pump.

Did you run it long enough for the thermostat to open up? Could you lay your hand on the head for at 5 or 6 seconds before you had to take it off. If the engine had not warmed up enought to open the thermostat it would have very little water coming from pee hole.

Thanks for reply SoLittle: I changed the water pump 06/04/2005 same day as post. However, I did not change thermostat. Can I just remove the thermostat? Or should I put a new one in? Thanks for your help.
Myliquidassets
ps. I have been out of town since my 06/04 psot

Thanks for reply Reelsport: I did not run long enough for engine to heat up. I will hook it up again today and try that. So when the engine heats up and thermostat opens then I should see more pressure at the **** hole. Right? Take care.
Myliquidassets

If you remove the nut on the telltale nozzle and remove the nozzle, you can hook up a garden hose and backflush the motor. Do not run the motor while doing this!!!!! Then put on the muffs and give it a whirl.
Good luck

Do not permanently remove the thermostat. It makes the engine run too cool which results in poor combustion ring sticking, etc. It's there for a purpose. Just replace it.

Re: New impeller installed **** still a trickle. What's up?

myliquidassets,

I backflush mine regularly. I haven't removed anything. Instead, I've altered the pee hose by cementing on an adaptor so that a hose quickfit connector goes on. Anytime I want to backflush, I just snap on the hose and turn on the tap.

Another little gimmick I've done is to angle my pee hose horizontally, so that when I'm on the water I can easily see (mirror or a quick glance back) how its working. Otherwise, in bright sun, the flow from the peehole gets lost in the dazzle from the boat wake.

On my 95 175hp V6, the pisser (telltale) exits the motor inbetween the two exhausts ports on centerline of the motor. The water is directed out of the motor via a directional (rotary) nozzle. It is secured by a APPX 7/8" nut. Remove the nut, the nozzle, and the threaded ID of what remains is the same as a female garden hose. Pretty sure your late model V4 is similar.
Good luck

Re: New impeller installed **** still a trickle. What's up?

I don't think temp has that much effect on the tell-tale, all of my engines pee hard as soon as they are started, even dead cold.

stillfishing.....I tried that technique of putting the quick connect hose connector in place of the factory tell-tale and had a severe drop in water pressure on my pressure gauge. Not sure if this meant that there was reduced pressure in the block or not but I didn't want to chance it and run my engine hot. Maybe the gauge was tapped off of the telltale but I still didn't want to take the chance, I was only getting about 18 psi at WOT, where as with the factory telltale I get about 30 psi and I had almost nothing at idle. Just a little heads up.

Angus, he has a crossflow. Its totally different than your 60 degree looper. The cf doent have that neat deal like yours does.

Thanks Dhadley, sure is the best telltale design I've ever had! Sorry to confuse the issue Mr. Assets!

Re: New impeller installed **** still a trickle. What's up?

Hi Cricket Too,

Don't want to hijack this thread, but I'm unclear here.

I haven't removed the tell tale hose, which acts as a restriction to the water outflow and hence helps keep water pressure where it should be.

I've just added a larger bore hose to the outside of it, and fitted a quick connector to this. The water flow rate through the motor when it's running is unchanged.

And of course when I backflush, I do not run the motor!
