I have a 1980 Johnson 35hp that i just purchased. before installing it on my boat, I removed bolts from lower unit and separated apart only enough to remove the 10mm bolts off the pump housing. I pulled the housing apart enough to see the rubber impeller which was in good shape, put it back together and bolted it back and wont pee. There is water coming out of the two exhaust ports and just a lil water coming out of pee hole in spirts but not streaming like it should. Just wandering if someone can help me out.

A smart move is to install a new impeller on a ---" new to you motor "-----So why did you not remove the lower unit to do that.------And are you test running in a bucket with water 6 or 8" above the impeller ?

well.. you can try running/wiggling a stretch of weedeater cord up the pee hole to free up any debris.. if any
or... you can try pushing some compressed air up the pee hole and retry the engine

a good impeller needs to push water up the water tube it may fail at lower rpms ... in a bucket but work better at high rpms ....as suggested.... change the impeller ..yours may have taken a set.

You could have affected impeller placement in the cup during the frigging around. Recommend x2 to replace the impeller.

also. You need to bury the lower end deep enough into water to get the impeller to work properly. They need a head of water to work
