Ok,

This is my first outboard motor and im already learning as I go. I Just mounted up my new 1995 Mariner 40 2 stroke and i noticed that the motor is loose where it connects to the steering stem. Im going to throw a picture on here and show my concerns. It appears that the only thing holding the lower half in place is the shifting rod. Im sure this is a common problem, and im guessing its a broken bracket inside, but before i tear it down i was hopeing for some expertise!

I guess a better way to explain it is, what does the steering shaft on the swivel bracket bolt to inside the drive shaft housing...its appears the only thing holding it back is the shift shaft

Its a 95' Serial Number 1040412RB, The more i think about it and look at it, it appears that it would be a motor mount situation.

That is a model number, not the s/n. If it is a '95, the s/n should begin with 0G followed by 6 numbers.
