NEW MEMBER- 40hp Johnson 1968

hey i just bought a 15' 4.4m fiber glass boat ti restore. Im 16 and i am gonna be doing all the work with some help from my dad. The boat is just the hull with a fiber glass floor, i has no interior i am gonna build one my self, but i was wondering if comes with a 1968 40 hp johnson. Is this a good engine? and what sort of things can i do to get it running? I go pick up the boat in 4 days.

Welcome to iboats.

First thing you should do is order an OEM Service Manual from ebay or outboardbooks.com.

Post the model number of the outboard. I hope it is not selectric shift, which I think it is. Unfortunately they can be troublesome, even for guys experienced in working on them.

If it's the electric shift, it's a pain in the butt if it's not working right.

If it is working right, then you're in the same boat that I'm in. Use it, but keep your eyes open for a deal on another good motor to replace it with.
