Hi, I am a new member. I have a small Lone Star rowboat and an Evinrude 9.9 with a trailer that we are repairing/restoring. I have had alot of trouble with the outboard, because it sat for most of 15 years. I am different than most, I mostly boat in the fall and winter. Waters do not freeze in Oklahoma very often. I am looking forward to communicating with other owners about my project. :)

Sounds Great. We have been owners of the vessel for about 18 months and have spent about $900 in repairs during that time. I gave $500 for it initially. So we are at about $1400 so far!

It does not work out to restore these old vessels moneywise, I don't think, but the intitial investment was low, and that enabled us to get started. I don't think I would have gone out and bought a $3000 boat which is what this setup would cost new.

We are in the phase right now trying to strip all the old paint off, and getting the motor running again. The last time I had a shop work on it it started becoming hard to start. The pull start rope broke and That was a few months ago. Last night I finally rewound the starter rope with new and put it back together. I even found the correct length of rope on the parts list from bombardier.

We will finish stripping it, replace some missing rivets in the bench seats, pack the wheel bearings in the trailer, recoat the inside of the old steel fuel tank, buy another higher quality fuel bulb and line, and then take it to table Rock lake Nov 1st, hopefully. I am going to try out the hydro-wings and see if that helps the performance any.

I will try to get some photos soon. The Outboard motor I have is a 1975 Evinrude 9.9 model 10524C. I finally determined the cause of the hard starting- a miswound spring on the choke assembly was not closing the choke all of the way. Took it out on the lake tonight for a test run and it ran great. started fine, still tinkering with the misture and trying to determine where is the correct range.

The hydro wings seemed to add some additional stability to the boat, possibly kept it from wheelying so much on takeoff.

That old paint is so stubborn, we coated the bottom of the boat about 5 times with paint stripper, and there is still some paint on the bottom.

Well, I lost my login password for 65bigfish and have a different email address so I could not recapture it. So I reregistered under my new name, 88phantom. I Sold my little Lonestar about a week ago and just bought a 1988 Nordic V170 Phantom by Crestliner. I will post pics of both boats soon.

Hmmm, 3 years to go up to a 17 from the rowboat ... that means you should have a 28-32 footer in another 3 years! ;)

Congrats on the upgrade!

Here is my theory of restoration projects and the time and $$ costs vs. buying it new... when you buy it new , and make payments on it...it starts getting old the day you buy it......when you get one for cheap(or free, as I did), and make your monthly restoration payments(parts , labor ) and the project is complete...its new again !!!.....it's an illness , I know.... :D:D:D

P.S. ..it's all worth it when someome asks you if it's for sale when it is completed....
