You will find out what it is, and be able to help the next fellow . I almost cashed in my free Dr. Kavorkian visit ticket before I got my engine to run. Hang in there Matt, there are a lot of guys trying to figure this out . I hope it's not something stupid easy that makes us all blush. Dave-R

I would suspect the ignition module is good. Almost all efi systems will produce spark before fuel. If you are losing spark you need to look at that first. You loose spark when the CMP is plugged in right? A bad cap or rotor would cause high voltage to interfere with the CMP which could back feed to the ecu. bad timing would also cause the CMP not to synce up with the CKP/CPS. Last is wiring, you have traced that out so I wouldn't worry about that. I think you are so close. If I was near I would help.

Just reread alldodge post talking about first run, a faulty plastic timing cover can cause this!!! No guarantee that's your problem but like he pointed out the CPS needs to have the proper gap. The non reusable covers are made in China, just saying. So are the aftermarket distributor caps and rotors.

UPDATE! I hate when posts are made and never resolved.... So I took time away from boat as season was lost anyways. I pulled motor today pulled timing chain cover and found that the reluctor wheel was a 3 tooth and my old motor was 4 tooth. I haven't had time to start it yet because I ran out of daylight in order to finish hooking up wiring harness. So with any luck she'll fire up tomorrow and I will keep this updated to maybe help some one in future

Matt: I want you to think how good it's going sound when it's purring like a kitty. Electronic problems are a bugger to find and fix. I think you have tried about everything else. Does make sense though about a different tooth reluctor. I wonder why they would install that particular one. It has been an ordeal for you, but you are going to get it. Dave-R

Got everything hooked up. And got the dreaded 0336 crank synch noise with a no start..... Turned distributor ever so slightly counter clockwise and .... she fired right up!!!

Thanks for everyone's help here and hopefully if someone else has same symptoms they can learn through my pain and wallet lol.
