New motor/New prop?

I'm having a new Suzuki 115 four stroke put on my 18 ft Crestliner tomorrow. I was wondering what prop would be good for me. I'm considering a stainless prop.

I had a 115 Johnson two stoke with a aluminum 3 blade 17 pitch on the boat. It had a pretty good shot out the hole, but lacked top end. I would get about 33mph at 5500 rpm.

My concern is that I've been told that the four stoke are a little slower than the two stroke's out of the hole. I was also told that the stainless should help help me out of the hole and top. I don't know if this is correct or not.

The boat is a Crestliner 1850 Sportfish 1400 lbs dry weight. The engine weighs 420 lbs.

I guess I'm more concerned with getting up on plane than over all top end speed.

What do you all think.

Question 1: Stainless or Aluminum?

Question 2: What pitch will be the over all best fit for take off and top end?

Thanks for any replies.

Re: New motor/New prop?

Stainless is usually worse out of the hole and better top speed. Aluminum flex is the reason for both, less pitch (due to flex) improves hole shot. That same flex reduces the props efficiency which negatively affects top speed.

Would I be buying the same pitch whether it is Aluminum or Stainless?

Any thoughts of what pitch I need?
