Re: new outboard protection

I have outboards I bought new as long as 30 years ago and they still look like they are brand new. Buy some canvas and make a cover for the cowl. Keep it covered except when in use.

Remove the cowl and wrap it in bubble wrap, then place it in a box and store it in the attic. :)

Agree, mine is 13 years old and I do that. Hardly a scratch on it, except what my kids did while using it. I only use the cover for longer periods of non-use. I mainly got it to protect from the sun so the decals wouldn't fade.

If UPS or FEDEX is delivering it, you'll likely have a scratch by the time you get it and there'll be no use in worrying anymore. ;)

Do what I do when I get a new vehical. I take my ball peen hammer and put the first dent in it. That way I don't feel bad when somebody slams a door into it in a parking lot. Just put one little scratch in it and you'll feel better.
