Re: new outboards yamaha
If you're talking about the new VF SHO series, there's no new information yet available. Interestingly there's has been no discussion of these new engines here on iboats, while on some of the other boating forums there's been a lot of threads discussing/debating the strong performance of the engines brought to the initial unveiling. Maybe not enough bass boaters here. I think that the biggest reservation expressed is that many doubt that the final production engines will produce the same level of performance as the engines that Yamaha brought to the initial debut, (e.g. Verado). They do appear to have exceptional acceleration, (

If you're talking about the upcoming new XCA F series, I don't believe a performance report has yet been published for the F225. There are only two performance reports for the XCA motors that I know of, one for the
F300, a twin installation on an EdgeWater 318CC, and one for the
F250 on a Ranger 621VS. Unfortunately Yamaha has no reports for these two hulls with either an HPDI 2-stroke or the older generation F series for comparison. BRP does publish a report on a Ranger 621VS for the
E-TEC 225HO, an engine that should produce comparable HP, however, listed hull weights are not in agreement. If this inconsistency is disregarded and the two reports are compared, the performance numbers are not as impressive as comparison of the new SHO series to the 2-strokes, although, I suppose that's to be expected. The hole shot and RPM/MPH ratio does look a lot better than the older F engines, but fuel efficiency and top speed lag behind the E-TEC in this comparison, while the older generation F motors usually compare favorably against the 2-strokes in those two areas on the heavy Ranger hulls. I think we'll have to wait for Yamaha to publish more reports to see an accurate trend of how much improved the new XCA series is going to be.
