Hey all, Feeling a bit stupid here. Just purchased a 1989 Force 85HP. I can't find the model # anywhere. I think the tag that it and the serial # were on is now blank based on a Force 125 I was also looking at. Anyway, 2 questions. 1. I was told by the previous owner, when i asked him, that the motor was 4 stroke. That doesn't seem right to me as there's no oil fill port or visible drain from the crank case. Would someone confirm if this is 2 or 4 stroke???? 2. Where else on the motor would I find the model # so I can look it up? Any help would be appreciated. I'm afraid to put gas is it .......

It's a 2 stroke. 50:1 fuel/oil mixture. If you post a picture of the ignition system, we can narrow it down to a date range.

Look inside in on the lower cowl in front of the carbs. Or check on the transom mount side.

If it's blue then the sticker would be on the transom clamp.
They would fall off or bleach out from the sun/ weather.
The 85's were all pretty much the same "except".
The model changes were small things like a different bolt or something minor.
So if you need a model# ?? Just use anyone you find. Depending on the drivesaft
The older 89's had a 1 piece drive shaft and the old style impeller housing, the later had the 2 piece shaft and the pump housing with the stainless insert..
So drop the lower and see what you have???

Thanks everyone. You've confirmed my suspicion that it is indeed a 2 stroke. I'll look under the carbs and see what I can find. thanks again!!!!
