New Powerhead, or not? 1989 Force 85hp

I've been running a 1989 Force 85hp with little or no trouble for 4 years. I brought it in for routine preseason work a few weeks ago and the mechanic says there's a cracked cyclinder and recommends a new powerhead. Total cost will be about the same as what I paid for the boat and motor 4 years ago. And like I say, it's been running okay, and I had no idea there was a problem. What is the downside of putting it back together as is and continuing to run it with a cracked cylinder?

Find another motor the same, or the 125hp if your boat will take it, and keep yours for parts to be used or sold off if they don't match the new motor.

Thanks Sony2001. I was thinking I'd have it put back together as is (with the cracked cylinder) and keep running it until it's shot for good. Then I'm in the same position anyway and will replace the motor or buy a whole new boat.

It should not be difficult to find a used force for a few hundred. Certainly less than a quality rebuild.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Where is your brother located, mnmfors? I'd probably not want to go through the hassle of a long distance transaction, but appreciate the info on the motor.
