I heard it through the grapevine that evinrude is coming out with some smaller E-tecs like in 25 hp? ANybody know anything about this? Price? Horsepower? Also, has anyone had any problems with their e-tecs like trouble finding someone who knows how to work on them since they're kind of new on the market? How about expense to work on them since you'll pretty much need a dealer?
curious,

Back the truck up folks. Isn't Bombadier's (spelling?) marketing plan to use Johnnies at the lower hp's and keep the Rudes for the upper cut, sorta like GM is peddling the Chevy to the poor guy and GMC for the folks with deep pockets?

Re: New small HP e-Tec's???

I suspect that the extra hardware needed by the etec would make the kickers too heavy, just like the small 4 strokes are heavy and don't use EFI for that reason.

I wonder about the future of small (under 25HP) outboards. The single cylinder 4 strokes are heavy, noisy and vibrate, the carbed 4 strokes are too dirty for the EPA regs and the carbed 2 strokes as well.

Well, there is necessity, said to be the mother of invention. Where is the invention of light, smooth, clean 3 to 20HP outboards?

Maybe they should run on propane or ethanol. I always ran my kart racing engines on methanol based fuels and synthetic or castor oil. They burned clean, but I don't know what emissions they may have made that the EPA doesn't like.

From what I know, Johnson will be making all of the small/portable outboards for BRP, while Evinrude will be making the larger displacement motors. E-Tech's are great motors, and you can go to pretty much any Johnson/Evinrude dealer now and they will be able to service it no problem.
