Finally cracked and bought my first boat this year...I'm the first to admit, I know aboslutely NOTHING about boats, and probably should have registered here prior to buying a boat, but here I am!

The boat is a 1980 Starcraft Queststar with an '80 Johnson 115. I'm the second owner of the boat, and I was able to talk to the mechanic that had serviced the boat for the last number of years, which made me a little more comfortable with the purchase.

I've had it for a couple weeks now, and I'm beginning to realize a few things that I wish it had (such as actual storage!), but for a first boat, I think it'll do just fine, and it really flies with the 115!

looks good, dock rash and all. but if you really wanted to learn about boats you should have bought one that needed the "treatment":p

I was hoping to avoid one needing the "treatment" as much as possible! I have a pile of old motorcycles that are already receiving the treatment, last thing I need to do is add another project to the list.

That being said, I was just looking around at how I might be able to make a removable casting deck for the open bow!

Oh, and that's a galvanized trailer. The whole rig tows real well.

Glass or Tin? How long, what model? Sweet looking boat. 115 horse!

Oh yea, Welcome to the Greatest Starcaft Show on Earth!

OK re-read your original post. It's a glasser, 1980 Queststar.

Thanks! Yeah, from what I know it's an '80 Queststar. That being said, I've found absolutely ZERO information online about that year and model...anyone know where I might be able to come across anything? I haven't actually measured the boat, but the guy I bought it from told me it was a 17'...It feels smaller though, and it's a pretty narrow beam too. Definitely not a huge boat, but I've had it out in some pretty big water already, and it's handled it like a champ so far.

Oh, and it moves along pretty well with the 115. I'll test it out with an actual GPS tomorrow....I haven't run it at WOT for a spring across the lake yet, but according to the boat's speedometer, 40 mph+ doesn't seem to be much of a problem.
