I have a 1985 Galaxy conquest with a mercruiser 120 I/O. New starter will not do anything. Im not sure if i hooked wiring up right. I have 2 larger red wires on the large center bolt. a yellow wire that is to the terminal closest to the motor. and a smaller tan wire on the other terminal. Im not sure if the yellow and tan wire is correct. when i turn key i get nothing. not a sound. i jumped the starter terminals and got starter to turn. i have a new battery. i just bought the starter. i have checked all connections from battery to starter. every thing looks ok. I dont know what else it could be. I have had the starter tested and they say its good.

I need some help. Open to any suggestions.

Have you tried swapping the yellow and tan wires? Check for voltage with someone turning the key? The terminal closest to the block is the one that activates the starter. I think the brown wire goes there. The yellow (I think w/red stripe?) goes on the outer terminal and is the boost wire for the ignition.
