Hi everyone. I finally have the new stern drive unit installed and ready for oil. Boat has been de-winterized. Oil and filter changed, belts checked, battery slow charged and checked, Cables ok, electrical....check, hydraulics....A-ok, new gaskets, billows and o-rings between the bran-spankin new drive unit. All I need to know is how much oil will it accept? I have a full quart in it but none has came out the top yet. does it need more? Thanks in advance. I looked thru the search tool but found nada....

Depends on year and type of drive you are filling.

Sorry the excitement was toooo much :D 1988 mercruiser alfaone. As a post note im going to the store for another quart as a precaution. Im told it should come out the top but.....
Is there anything else I should be looking at : just replacing the drive?

They take just over a quart. Like 36 or 38 ounces. If they are cast perfectly and you don't loose a drop.
Buy 2 quarts this year, one quart next year for the anual changeing of the gear lube ceremony.

Would really hope that you are NOT reusing any seals or gaskets. Unless you want to learn how to replace expensive parts.

Thanks Don, that is what I thought. And I just spent a whole lotta minnows for this new drive unit. Not ever going to take the CHEAP way out again (reusing inexpensive parts) ;) Thanx again
