Re: New stuff: Catastrophic failure

1150 spec is from a 2011. 1050 is more accurate. I am guessing at the motor. Will never have even close to 500 in gas and gear. There was less than 5 gal (less than 30 lbs.) at the time. No gear at all. No seats, coolers, trolling motor, nothing. Springs are crap, not the loading, or the install. I can pick up the trailer from the rear with the boat in water. It may weigh 225. And that is with it being bunk style.

Even if it was overloaded by a couple hundred pounds spring steel shouldn't have flattened out or formed a W. I'd bet most 2000lb utility trailers out there have been significantly overloaded without a spring flattening out. If that's the service AAATrailer offers I'm glad I bought my axle elsewhere. I bought a "spring" for a door handle on a Chev truck once. Installed it, put the door back together, and when I lifted the handle the "spring" just bent. I was furious, so considering your situation I commend you for maintaining your composure as well as you are.

I find it odd that brand new springs bent. I would have expected broken leafs, if overloaded. I vote for mild steel spings!

I'd like to see pictures. From what you've said, it seems there weren't enough leafs in the leaf springs to handle the load.

I'll buy that you did a great install job; but I dunno man, there's a difference between overthinking and overengineering. Sounds maybe like you used your calculator to see how close a shave you could get instead of giving yourself a bigger safety margin.

Will be interested to hear if the springs were made of the right stuff, and what the shop's gonna do for you.
