New thermostats have no slot at valve

I just got the new thermostats for my 1988 88spl, and comparing them there is no triangle slot at the valve cap. The old one has a small triangle slot, should I add to the new one? What is the reason behind the slot and drawbacks of not having?<br />Thanks

Yes, add it. The slot helps to equalize pressure on both sides. The crossflow V-4 (88 SPL)behaves better with the "slot" in the stat.
