hello, either buying a 12' or 14' aluminum boat.. just a simple one with 3 bench seats. now i dont know a thing about motors at all... so far i have a 36lb thrust trolling motor... will that be good for pushing alon the shore for either of these boats? Also i wana buy a 5.5 HP motor.. how good/ bad would that be for iether of these boats? if some one could please help me before i waste my money on this motor!?>..

The troller should be good. I have a 45lb on my 16' starcraft. It does fine. As for the 5.5. Im not sure thats enough but I really dont know for sure.

depending on the math, one horsepwer is equal to 75 to 110 lbs of thrust. for an average tro9lling motor, figure on the high end of the scale.

my dad had a 16 ft alum 3 bench with a 36trolling motor, and we were pretty happy with it. also depends on how much weight.

where you're going to use it is also a consideration

The trolling motor should be fine. The 5.5 will be fine to scoot you around the lake, but you probably won't go past displacement speeds. You will probably be happier with a 10hp.

I have used a 4HP on a 14' aluminum with a couple people in it and it moved it just fine. Will it plane it? Nope but it moved it pretty well. That same boat with a 9.9 moved out really nicely.
