Hi.
I am Sam from Long Island NY. I am 18 years old. I own 2 boats. I just got my 2nd one on Friday. It is a go-fast boat.....1984 Chris Craft Stinger with a mercruiser 454 bravo. The other boat I own is a 13' Mini Hawk "Cigarette" (which is for sale).
I will be doing a total restoration on it....just started gutting the boat on Saturday and today. Everything (well almost) will be either refreshed or brand new!

I got LOTS of questions, and I hope I came to the right place to have them answered.

Welcome, Stinger!

does it need a deck/transom/stringers job? How's the drive train?

Look forward to seeing this one pan out, it's a beautiful boat.

I was looking at that,....But it would probably might maybe be more work than it would be worth,......And it would have to be a 300 horse tiller to even try to plane out,....And I've only ever seen pictures of one 300 horse tiller,.........I don't think it's a cheap motor,.........lmao,...

EVerything seems to be solid at the moment....but we shall see when I dig deeper into the project....started to rip out the carpet today, but then had to cut my time short because it starts to get dark down here earlier.....not fun when you want to work! Havent touched the motor since I got the boat.....I like to assume for the worst and be surprised with something better......previous owner was a mechanic so Im sure he knew how to take care of the motor......he lost the boat due to not having enough $$$ to pay the boatyard fee.....so then i came along and took it!

I personally wouldn't even consider changing to an outboard...keep the design as is. Just repair the Merc as needed and have fun with it.

Just read the entire thread carefully....I see I was mistaken about the tiller conversion on this thread but where did it come from? I'm confused... Guess I'm getting old timers....:confused:

Welcome Stinger, Glad you're here and that you have a sharp lookin' fiberglass boat to share with us as you work on it. I'm already wishing you'd post more pics and that you'll share your thoughts for the restore. By the way, back when I was 18, I was allergic to unpaid work. :D We'll be watching.

I'd open up those inspection plates and see what is going on below if you can....

I have a feeling there is some rot...

Those black things on the floor? There are 3. Opened it up a few days ago...the gas tank (70gallon) is under there and the tank looks to be in great condition. The stringers look to be solid when i hammered on them via access thanks to the hole where the captains seat was.

Yeah I figured they're for the tank... But with my old ones you could see a stringer..

Percussion isn't the best test.. I'd drill a few core samples just for safety... I'd hate to see you bust your *** on a nice interior only to find a rotten deck in 2 years...
