Re: Fuel Tank

Re: Fuel Tank

Forget the POR15 or any other product with that kind of corrosion. A new tank and sender is the ONLY way to go.

I'm sure glad RogersJetboat454 gave me the idea to pull the sending unit. I would have been pissed if I had put 24 gallons of premium in there!

Looking for a tank in the realm of 43" x 22 1/2" x 8 3/4"

Like this, perhaps? http://www.iboats.com/18-Gallon-Permanent-Boat-Fuel-Tank-36-5-L-X-18-25-W-X-7-25-H-Moeller/dm/*******.575328239--session_id.178012465--view_id.391547

The 8 3/4" high is the critical measurement...it cannot be much, if any, higher than that.

Does the tank have to be a marine fuel tank, or could I get something like a fuel cell from Summit racing? Just trying to figure out what I can do for the best price. Seems like Moeller is pretty much the only game in town as far as marine applications go....

Re: Fuel Tank

Well, just a thought, but if you are already pulling all of that stuff out, what about using an in-floor tank instead of a bow tank? Would free up space in the bow for storage, and lower the center of gravity slightly by putting the fuel weight below the floor. Just a thought.

If he wanted to sacrifice his ski locker, thats a possibility. I don't think you can fit much of a tank in there. The deck is pretty low in a V-184

Pisten, stick with a marine tank. One possible reason why the compressor may not be able to blow through the tube is the anti-siphon valve (brass part screwed to top of pickup with AN fitting) is fighting you. Regardless if it works (in the correct direction), you should consider getting a new anti-siphon valve anyway.

Re: New to me 76 Glastron-Mercruiser 888 .

I think I've got my tank picked out.

Do you suppose I need to replace the 15 feet of copper fuel line that goes from the tank to the filter?

My latest dilemma is finding a replacement fuel pump to carb fuel line. I believe the Mercruiser part # is 32-70141 but all the parts sites say that part is no longer available. I took the part to Summit racing thinking I could get a stainless steel aftermarket line but the one I ordered will not work.

I'm hoping someone with more knowledge in Mercruiser parts could point me in the right direction.

No need to replace that unless there are obvious signs of deterioration.

You can buy a length of 3/8 fuel line from an auto parts store and use a tubing bender to make your own. Here's what I did on mine. (It is a straight six, but the concept is the same).

Or you can put a barb fitting on and use type A-1 marine rubber fuel hose.

Re: New to me 76 Glastron-Mercruiser 888 .

I been working on rebuilding the carb the last few days. I've been having some problem with my check balls...sheesh. After doing some searching here. I can see I am not the only one.

During dis-assembly I think I may have lost (or perhaps there never was) the check ball under the accelerator pump...but the aluminum check ball that is supposed to go there, that came with the rebuild kit seems too large to me. Visibly it is the exact same size as the steel check ball that gets staked under the venturi cluster. Everything I've read seems to say it should be smaller.

Mercruiser Serial : 4469319

Rochester carb number: 7044185

I ordered Quicksilver part number 1397-5831 for my rebuild kit.

I sure could use a little moral support on this one.
