hey everyone, im not new to boating but new to owning my own and repair of the motor. i have done engine work but not outboards but thats not where my problem lies i think. the lower unit is something i know nothing about really. last year i bought a boat with a chrysler 25 on the back which might bad decision? anyway, the motor ran and runs good but the second time i had the boat out i was running at full speed and it just gave way and reved up a bit. put it in neutral and tried to put it in gear and nothing, just reved the motor. i've been doing some reading and its come down to spun hub or coupler? when back at the pier had a couple of guys at the cottage looking at it with me and i noticed while my bud was putting it in gear and we where check out the motor the water was not coming out the exhaust. while we didnt run it long i dont think this was long after i rowed up and docked it so i dont think it was just because it was cold still. i dont want to start it and let it run to see if the water comes out and ruin the engine but dont know where to start. id rather do the fix myself it possible which is why im posting here to see if i can get some info on weather this is something i can do or if i should take it in to someone but id rather not spend the money if i can do the fix myself. thanks, aaron

Re: new to outboard repair, help please.

oh ya, i should mention that this happened last year and boat sat all winter which doesnt really have anything to do with the problem but i went to check it out today and with motor off and in neutral the prop spins easy but when i put the boat into gear the prop still spins. there is some resistance but i can spin it by hand pretty easily so isnt this to say that im not turning the engine when im spinning the prop in gear? shouldnt it be very hard to turn unless i remove the plugs? just thought this might help others help me. thanks, aaron

Re: new to outboard repair, help please.

You need to post in the Chrysler\Force section you'll get lots more help.
The prop has a drive pin that may have sheared/broke.Its supposed to if you strike something.
You should change the impeller (pump). A repair manual is a must if your going to be working on the motor..Sometimes you'll find one at the library.
Aftermarket manuals are fair but a factory manual would be best. ebay good place to check.
You may find an impeller here at iboats. West Bend was purchased by Chrysler in 65,became Force in 85.
