Re: New Toon owner needs advice retrieving boat onto trailer

Dad has a scissor and it is nice for lining the boat up - I havn't ever had a reason to crank it down though since it loads fine in the upright position.

I've used one for about 3 yrs myself- Never needed to crank it down.
Breeze to load as long as its not to deep in the water-

The problem with adding guides on the inside at the back of the trailer is that when the trailer is down in the water the back is down deeper. On the inside you can only add them so high and then you will drag the bottom of the boat on them. If you add them on the outside you can make them as tall as you want and they will just go up past the deck-railing etc. as long as you don't have things mounted on the outside of the boat that might catch on them. I was warned that scissor trailers are fine for pulling a boat out of the water but most people say they aren't as stable when your towing down the roads. If you get into a lean over the boat has a tendency to rock over and that can cause a capsize. The bunk trailer makes sense to me unless you are picking a boat up off the ground and that is what scissor trailers are designed to do.
