New way to Flush an O/B ?

I was down at the river camp watching the water rising and watched a man flushing his outboard for the winter storing season..He was flushing it at the tell-tale water stream outlet . This is where his water supply was going to. He had a Mercury engine that looked like it may be a 2000 or newer. Is this a new idea or just an old one that's rarely done this way?....regards.....Tom

Old idea, but many of the newer Mercurys, and other engines as well; have a garden hose fitting near the exhaust specifically for flushing... It's nice because you don't need to run the engine to flush it...

Hmm! How exactly does that process work? would that be like back flushing? I'm somewhat intrigued.

He just thouht he was flushing his Mrec. The tell tale by-passes the head on newer Mercury's. [told to me by a Merc. mechanic]

It's just meant to show the water pump is working.

Besides, if you flush without the motor running, how does the salt get off the impeller, pump, etc.

Jerry
