Have a newly installed '98 Johnson 90 HP on my 17' CC that we use in Naragansett Bay, RI.
Rebuilder just took the prop off my old '91 Johnson 90HP and put it on this newer motor.
Problem is that I have no earthly idea how to properly spec the prop, which seems to work fine so far, but I am in need of a better understanding of what effect pitch, diameter, and material would have on the performance on my rig. I'm just looking for decent performance and mpg combination...not super high speed.
I realize this is an involved topic... but any help would be appreciated.

Re: Newbie Looking for a Prop Spec'ing Primer

The first order of business is to determine if your motor is running at the upper end of the recommended RPM range at WOT with your current prop. If it is not, then you will need to go up in pitch to lower RPM's or down to raise RPM's. You can use the red "search" icon at the top of this page to find tons answers to your questions on prop pitch, stainless props etc.
