Re: Newbie looking for advice

I had a 1999 5.0 Volvo -Penta raw water cooled. When I bought it, the dealer (sold mercs and vp) told me the VP drive was bulletproof. I had the boat 10 years and recently sold it. Never had a problem with the drive and the engine was still running good with great compression. Part of it was luck I'm sure , as I never flushed it but did have it professionally maintained at the end of the season. The 5.0 was underpowered for my boat so I would consider going with a 5.7 if possible. Block is the same dimensions on the outside and you will never regret having a bigger engine. Good luck

Send a PM to Kiwi Phil who is a member here on iboats from the Sunshine Coast of AU. Phil has purchased boats in the USA and had them packaged and shipped.
