Hit the barnacles with a high pressure washer as soon as you get it out of the water. That should get most of um. They can be a bitck to get off if allowed to dry.

Took 10 hrs of scraping and sanding!!
PITA!!!
tnksf or advise

Saved yourself about $30/hr doing that, wisher.

Worth it?

You are lucky you were able to clean it, unpainted bottoms left in saltwater for any appreciable length of time can be come unrepairable (at least not at any reasonable price).

Bottom painting sucks from all aspects, but no one has come up with a good alternative for a casual boater.

I have a 19" hurricane deck w/a 88 70hp merc. It stuggles to get on plane with a 13p and maxes out at 16mph with a 11p. Bottom is dirty but the best I';ve ever seen was 21 mph w/the 13p @ 5100. I'm considering repowering to the 100 -150 range. Thoughts, suggestions?

Also, anyides if this is a long or short shaft?

Re: newbie repower ?

I agree with the other posters, 70 hspwr is really low. I have a 22' Hurricane rated for 12 people and I'm running a Yamaha 4 stroke 115 hspwr.

Full throttle with 4 people I've done 39 mph, I've done 35 mph with 9 people.

Gas savings with a 4-stroke seem to only pay off if you're running less than full throttle. If you're running full throttle, it sucks just as much fuel as any 2 stroke.

The boat is rated for 150, like yours, and I'm not sure how much more speed you'll get...if you go with a 2 stroke 150, you'll get the advantage of more horsepower and less weight, I understand that the weight of a 2 stroke 150 and a 4 stroke 115 are pretty much the same.

We have a saying in IT that goes like "When is adding more memory to a server *not* the right answer?" I suspect the same goes for boats and horsepower.
