Hey everyone....im new here. Wish I had something to offer before I start asking questions but I dont being that im a newb lol. Sorry, I hope you help still...
Anyway...
Quick history I have had several boats, bass boats, center consoles, dual consoles...blah blah...so im 'okay' and I say that loosely with outboards. I race and build quads so im good with 2 and 4 stroke cycle motors....with that being said. I recently sold my 23' with 200hp Merc (that thing hauled) and Im looking at a small 16 boat becuase my 3 sons are going thru 'fishing from boat' withdraw lol....This boat im eyeing up has a 72 Johnson 70hp on it. The owner tells me the last time it was ran 4+ years back it smoked the day they put it away and didnt go to use it till the next season at which point the motor wouldnt turn over. So it then sat till now. Now I dont think it siezed from use....Im thinking maybe I can dump some seafoam or WD-40 in the cylinders and see if I can turn the crank ver manually.... The motor not running is not a deal breaker becuase I plan to use an electric motor alot but it sure would be nice to fire that little guy up and rip up and down the river.
The boat btw is a 72 starcraft 16' dc and its all aluminum. I plan to gut it...and put a big casting deck from front to back with new carpet and use it as a salt/freash hybrid.
So what do you gurus think on the motor situation? I have no quams bout ripping it down...im jus thinkin maybe I can get her turnin over and look see the compression.
Thanks guys!!!
Anyway...
