Newly acquired Sea Nymph

Hello, I just recently joined the forum here. I have just acquired a 14 foot fishing machine and I've begun work on it. I made a photobucket account and loaded some pics, I just have to figure out how to load them in the threads now. In planning on installing a 1969 Evinrude Fastwin with a tiller steer, so hopefully it will push the boat ok.

Welcome to iboats and the Sea Nymph club! I think you will like your boat a lot.

To post pictures, go to your photobucket album. As you scroll your mouse over the pictures, you will see a little "gear" icon on the top right; click on that and then click "get links." There will be a screen that pops up with 4 bars. Click in the bottom field (IMG) and it will say "copied." Then, just jump over here to your thread and click paste. Once the image tag is pasted in, it will just look like a bunch of text. However, when you actually post your reply, the image will show up.

Ive gotten the hull washed and the wet foam, rotted flooring, and mulch transom out already. Ive made the new transom as well as a reinforcement plate for the outside also.

these tin boats are fun, easy to use, hard to abuse and much easier on the ol wallet. That 18hp will be alright with a couple persons and a moderate amount of gear.

I ran a Lund S14 with an 18hp on it and it did fine as long as I didn't max out the weight limit. Top end was pretty good but took a little longer to get up on plane when loaded.

Thanks Bonz! I will mostly be using the boat with my two young sons and minimal gear, so I think it will be fine with the 18. I also have a 33, but it is a remote steer and I wanted the extra room, so I'm going tiller

I think so too Jas! I can't wait. I'm also refurbing the trailer at the same time too. I am thinking of using some of that "Coat It" on the bottom, it says its an epoxy with Kevlar. Anybody tried that stuff yet?

Yeah, I used Coat-It when I ran out of Gluvit. I liked it. It was about 1/3 of the cost of Gluvit and appeared to me to a comparable product. The only difference is that Gluvit goes on clear-ish and Coat-It is black. However, since both Gluvit and Coat-It are epoxy-based and therefore hate UV rays (you have to paint over either product). Also, I liked the black because I could see any spots that I had missed a little better:

Ah, yeah I have used epoxy before, but I had forgot about the uv factor! I'm building a couple of wooden skiffs also, but this tin boat has my attention! Way faster and easier to get on the water for sure, the skiffs will wait till this winter. I'm thinking of going with white for the base color and a light metallic blue stripe on the sides with grey insides.

Well, I did some work on the trailer. Got it osphoed, sanded and 75% primed, ran out of primer! I'm using farm and implement primer and paint on the trailer from Tractor Supply. I took a pic, soon to post.

This is a donor trailer I salvaged from a trihull glass boat that had twin 18hp's, the hull went to landfill, the engines were near mint. The tounge of the trailer was bent at a 45, so I cut it off and welded a new pipe, but I went 3 feet longer.

Ok, this is a pic of before I finished the gut out. I have a question for you veterans, if I put a tied in bench seat made of aluminum in the stern, and a fore deck, would this enable me to remove the side panels where the foam is located? I would also tie in the ribs to the sides in the middle with aluminum. I will foam the bottom, but not the sides, so this would give me an extra foot of width inside the hull. Im thinking this would make up for the structure lost from removing the side panels. Hope this makes sense!

IMHO, if you did something like this and left the structure as indicated in the pic you would be fine.

Yes! That is exactly what I was getting at! Thanks for the reply. The hull is actually still pretty stiff with nothing in it, so I figured the added decking would suffice. I guess because its width to length ratio.
