Re: Newly aquired....Any thoughts...

put another set of plugs in and a new cap and shes runnin YAY.

Ok next problem.....

now i got water blowin in near the exaust pipe.

i cant get any of those manuals to download,i need now to be able to see what i have to fix next.I have to buy another bilge so i can try to pump it out when i move it.(orinal is workin fine)

How fast do you think she would sink?

also i need to know if anybody has tried to like gum up the bellows with an adhesive so i can limp it to the trailer.I might be able to put outboard on the back(it has the plate) but i wont be goin very fast and if i got water comin in ill never make it.Im all but trying to keep from craning it out of the back backyard. So far i have just under 400.00 in the boat and trailer. If it wasn't xmas i wouldnt care but im workin to hard to just call it a day....

I put it back on the lift, but not sure if i wanna attempt to replace bellows from my jon boat.(dont think i wouldnt try)

I possibly could have a friend tow it,but not if its takin on water....

Any ideas?

I've only had it since 11/13 and im bout frustrated.....

I need to be thinking bout other things but im bein pressed to get it out of there....

Oh and if thats not enuff it appears to have a minor oil leak from the front....

Good Lord.....I just want it on the trailer and in my front yard

Re: Newly aquired....Any thoughts...

Renken was an entry level boat (read inexpensive) so some corners were cut during manufacturing. Quality was acceptable though--I would not classify it as a bad boat to own. In fact, my '82 18 footer handled like a bigger boat and had real good manners in rough water. I was quite happy with her. The only reason I sold her was because I wanted a bigger cuddy cabin (2 foot-itis).

If you think you might take her into bigger water, you may want to remove the rub rail insert and see if they still used "pop" rivets to join the rub rail and two hull halves. Mine did and there were no back up washers behind the rivets (cut corners). Pounding in rough water pulled through all the rivets from the bow back to the windshield and nothing was holding the deck and hull together. I had to drill them out and replace with 1/4 inch truss head ss screws.

If you replaced the plugs and cap and it works, you might want to consider points and condenser too in the near future.

If you need 2 pumps to keep the water out, hope you can swim.......

The only acceptable fix for a leaking bellow is replacement....

Please don't get frustrated quite yet...... I'm sure about everyone here has been in your shoes at one time or another with a used boat. But the day will come when you are out enjoying it and laughing at what is going on now.

Keep listening to these folks here, you in in the best company for boat repair.
