Next problem.. Shift rod

Ok so i want to take off the lower unit to replace the water pump and check the clutch dog. well i got to the point were i need to remove the shift rod but i just wanna double check to see what the easy way to do this is.. it looks like its just the pin that holding it up right now but how can i get in there to knock it out. and than put it back in lol

What engine? Shift rods disconnect in a variety of ways.

Sorry completely spaced that lol.. its a 1986 Johnson SPL 90hp.. i have the manual and its saying to remove the pin or bolt.. so it looks like the pin. but its just so far in there lol

Im taking the carbs off now to see if i can get in there a little easier

Follow the cable to the engine's shift linkage, then follow the shift rod linkage down to a rather large pin that goes thru that rod.... remove the pin.

Now simply push that shift rod linkage towards the other side of the engine to release the shift rod.

NOTE! The shift rod measurement from the lower units top surface to the shift pin hole, in neutral, in the rod is critical. Be careful not to turn the rod and change that measurement.

ok so when i removed the engine it was in nuetral so your saying just dont play with the shift rod any right
