My 1998 Sears Gamefisher came with Champion L87YC spark plugs. I am having a difficult time locating them. I have found the NGK equivalent which is BP6HS. Are NGK plugs ok to run in these motors?

Thanks Ryan

NGK is a top notch plug,so I would have no problem using them. The ngks are usually a little shorter than champs.Did you try searsparts.com Charlie

Thanks Charlie, I think I will just put the NGKs in. If they dont run well I will check with Sears parts and get a set of Champions. Thanks

I don't think you can beat an NGK plug. If they are available I always get them as a first choice. Champion is my last resort, but they work too.

I have found that NGK plugs are the ONLY plug to use in a 2 stroke.

Champion is only or was only the best selling spark plug out there, they fowl good to ,NGKs are a great plug.they take a licking and keep on ticking,OOPs Wrong Add.Autolites I think cross over well with Champs #s also.

Re: NGK or Champion?

I've tried both brands in many different motors and NGK has always given more problems...2 stroke or 4 stroke. This has usually been going from NGK to Champion. Experienced mechanics give me opposite opinions from each other on NGK vs Champ so I always wonder if plug performance is more related to the right heat range vs brand.

ditto on nothtin' wrong with NGK's. Will use champ's if need be, but NGK's seem to be particularly good with 2 stroke engines (my experience is based on sleds as much as with OB's)

Maybe champ's don't like the cold weather (?) but I've had lots of failures of them in sleds.

B

I don't know about sleds,I think Harley's have there own PLUGS;}Autolites are good! I like BOSH in my truck,I used NGKs in my old 74 Dodge 1/2 Tn van, they where the only plugs that would run in it after 300,000 miles, no lie,318mdl, like a good woman, great bottom end,not much up top,I changed the heads on that dumb thing,???x. I have a Split Fire in my tiller, and in my weed eater, haven't had a problem with them in two Yrs,I don't know if they make a cross over for other things,I think I'll look into that for my Sea King 5. I,m still looking for a sollution for my carb problem.I have a vacuum leak @ the throttle controll housing between the plastic and the aluminum housing,I'm thinking WAX,the extra air coming in up there is messing up my fuel air mix.
