It's well-know here and usually referenced at some point in any 'bilge pump' thread. Thanks for pointing to it.

It'd be interesting to run a poll to see what percentage of folks on here are in compliance with the article's recommendations on bilge pump numbers/total gph vs. boat size. I bet it would be under 3%--maybe even under 1%--if everyone answered (and answered truthfully).

I know I am not even close to 2 pumps/2500gph. My little 15' runabout (call it 16' for the article ;) ) has only a single of those 500gph Rule pumps the article craps on. Maybe I should upgrade.

I don't know the make or capacity of the (cockpit controlled) pump that was in my 21' Sylvan but I added a Rule 1500 and float switch (with separate discharge) direct from the battery. Having read that article I am now thinking I should have a better battery to since I don't have power at my slip.

Unusual, alright. What make of boat? Sounds like they take boating pretty seriously.

I am getting ready to install a secondary pump myself and might even take off the factory one and install a larger one too, so I'll have two, one with the switch and one with the float.

I like the idea of having a spare that's not installed. If needed you clip it onto a battery and throw the hose overboard. Helped a guy raise a sunk boat at a dock once and once we got the gunwales above the water he set his extra on in the boat and it pumped it out.

Hmmm, guess I need an extra pump. I just switched out my 650 to a 1000 and though that was enough.
