Hello fellow fun seekers. I have been following this forum for a while but only just signed up. Thanks to everyone who has contributed, if nthing else it is an eye opener to many gerat tips and tricks.

I was sure I saw a post a while back discussing core material for transoms. I have used nida core for deck hatches and other less then structural purposes, but since I got a pallet of it for free and will be embarking on a new project this winter, I was wondering if anyone (in particular the fellow that used nida core for his transom) could comment on this.

I am of course confident it would be fine with three or four sandwiches? I already know it would be good for stringer cores, and of course I believe it is gold for above water line, but what if you took say 6 or even 8 layers of 1/2" with matting and even some lighter woven in between each layer, then just used longer bolts for the jack plate and extra cloth to "pad" the stress area out about 3 and 6 inches from that? (hope this doesn't sound confusing due to lack of pictures)

FYI here is a link to my 16' (15' 4") tri hull project:

Cheers everyone, safe boating (take CPS courses whenever you can)

I have no answer to your question but I just wanted to comment that your project looks AMAZING! Excellent work. You really brought that old tri-hull back to life. It actually looks fairly modern.

Thanks EZM. Your Starcraft looks very nice. Wish I had one just it last weekend, I would have been much more comfortable and dry....also, you can mount downriggers and other accessories on the nice flat gunnel very easily. This is almost identical set up that my buddy on Vancouver Island has. We go out crabiing and salmon fishing on the west side when it isn't too choopy (you can get 8' + chop out there)

Cheers,

FYI everyone, I found my answer. Nida now makes a pourable transom core material. I am partial to their line as I get a deal through my wife. Great forum !!

Great project! You do excellent work. Could you describe how the batteries are rigged; cabling, switches, etc.?
