Nightmares

Not that many cared and they should not, but my Thurs. and Fri. comments were very strong against the war resulting in deaths of our young troops. Well they came after a return of nightmares I have not had for over 20 years returning. Several of you pointed out my outspokenness against W as a coward was just my liberal views. Well they come from experience of another war that was about money.<br /><br />Some of you shall be pleased to hear I have been instructed to cut back on my outburst of feelings for these deaths. My doc explains that this Post traumatic Stress Syndrome, I have always argued does not exist, is present in me. I wish I could let a few of you chickenhawks share in the flash back nightmares I am having. I really really do wish you could feel the effects of killing and seeing your friends go down.<br /><br />Anyway, I will lighten up and not be as harsh per doc although I would like to be the loudest anti-W war man on line. Keep up the good fight, and both sides keep the communication open, that is what we are all about.

You are not alone in that, TXS. Many of us have nightmares of our own.<br /><br />You young fellas who went to Nam (after I did) were not adequately psychologically prepared for the horrors of battle and many of you suffer for it. That is sad.<br /><br />I did not experience combat in the traditional sense, yet I had to kill a boy with his face inches from mine and watch him die. Even with hardening, those things don't go away.<br /><br />More important than the horrors we have faced and the scars we bear is how we deal with them, how they affect our behavior toward others. <br /><br />War has been with us as long as our species has existed, and with the ancestors of our species. It can be avoided only if all parties are able to find agreement in compromise. When that agreement cannot be achieved war becomes necessary and people will die. Unpleasant as that is, it is a fact of life.

I to have those vivid nightmares but I select to keep them personal because that is what they are.<br /><br />There is no one that has been to war that has a conscious that won't have these nightmares but venting them through hassling your fellow persons is not the way to deal with it. IMO.

TXS. I find the best way to deal with the sweats is to print it out but instead of pushing post I hit print instead. Then I burn It in the fire place.

Everyone that has any worldly experience has a nightmare they don't like.<br /><br />Mine is not combat related, but I live through the WTC attack atleast once a month.<br /><br />Also the face of that young lady that I held in my arms while she died and I was helpless to help her haunt me.<br /><br />But I deal with it in my own way.

TX I myself am a vet and have varied nightmares (both related to my service and others)... I know it does not improve you situation.<br /><br />I believe in my heart we are all anti-war but as myself I cannot bring myself to blame anyone person.<br /><br />What I have found is that everyone has nightmares and troubles. They just deal with them in differant ways.<br /><br />SBN I lost 5 classmates in the WTC.<br /><br />Good decision to lighten up... I hope you will feel better.

Excuse me!!!!<br /><br />Please, there are thousands of us vetrans that have post trumactic stress, with what we went thru and done of which I will not go into and there are those of us that seek counciling and those that go it alone<br /><br />This another troll from a far left liberal???

You are correct fly rod, there are4 a lot of us who deal with it in our own way, I try to put it behind me where it belongs and for the most part it stays there. once in a while it comes to the front and we all have deal with it then. I feel lucky that not too many dreams come to me any more. It seams that when people talk about it then it will happen. Good luck to all who go through this.

There are a lot of vets from that period that do not fall on their sword daily. It's too painful. I deal with my deamons in my own way. Tx. I read your trolls it seams multi-daily but don't respond because it will come to no end. You will not change nor will I, but I'm truely sorry for your pain. Do as your Doc advises, deal with it in a different way, and join us in debate about things we of that generation need to be talking about. Aging gracefully, family, grand children, fishing, old boats and good whisky in the evening. This is what your buddies would want. Not arguing over something that can't be changed. God speed on your recovery. Don

What flyrod, don, and bob said. As a veteran of both the korean and vietnam experiences, in my opinion different men handled crisis and trauma in different ways. It seemed to very much depend on their state of mind and stability and maturity when they went in as to how they came out. It seemed that even very gentle individuals usually did well if they were mature and at ease with themselves. Some men proved to be far more valuable regardless of rank than others and asked little in return.

I know how you feel, Brother.<br />My dreams come from Somalia. Ugly, ugly place and time.<br />Keep the faith, see VA, talk to your wife or significant other, talk to other vets. It might not go away, but I think a lot of it can be managed and controlled.

Your nightmares prevented me and my children from living a nightmare.<br /><br />Nazism was a nightmare.<br /><br />The possibility of a world full of communist countries backed by the Russians was a nightmare.<br /><br />A world held under threat from radical muslim terrorists is a nightmare.<br /><br />Try to think of it that way and thanks again.<br /><br />Ken
