I own a used NS 3.5 B2. I have a slight fuel leak coming from the inclosed tank. It's leaking from a faulty seam that was used in the construction of the tank. Is there any way this can be repaired with something and/or can anyone tell me where I can purchase a new tank. Thanks!!!
Dan

In a pinch I have seen JB weld fix some leaky tanks on tractors cars and trucks, but it depends on the location and shape of the tank. Otherwise I would suggest contacting Avalon Professional Group Inc. who I believe is the main Nissan Dealer here in the States. They should know if a replacement tank is available.

www.internetoutboards.com

Hey thanks Buckeye for the reply. Good idea...I'll try that JB Weld, and I call to see what a new tank will cost. The tank is some kind of molded plastic material. I just need something that's will adhere to the plastic and won't break down with the fuel. I'll also check out that powerhead...Thanks!
Dan

Dan,

The tank should be replaced, not repaired, due to risk of fire, explosion and injury. The tanks retail for $33.10 and are available from any Nissan or Tohatsu dealer.

Re: Nissan 3.5 B2 faulty fuel tank

I had the same problem on my 4.0 Nissan with the internal fuel tank. It developed a crack after about 2 hours of total run time after I bought it new. The dealer wanted me to bring the motor to them for replacement but I talked them into just shipping me a new one, which they did under warranty.
The motor is a 2006 and I've had nothing but trouble with it ever since I bought it, each time supposedly due to dirty fuel, but I know that's not the case since I run the gas through a filter when filling the tank. I hope you have better luck with your 3.5 than I've had with my 4.0

RBib,

Welcome to the forums. You replied to a 6-year-old post; I hope the OP resolved his issue by now.

If a crack develops in a plastic tank, it must be replaced. Nothing we have tried works for long. That's also true of the 3- and 6-gallon remote tanks of any brand.

I have a fleet customer with MFS4A2 motors (your vintage) that were having fuel problems, primarily water contamination. Not sure whether they were buying the gas that way, or whether the problem was happening at their base. But it was a repeat clean-the-carb-and-flush-the-fuel-system issue. After a lot of service trips, and much speculation, I supplied them with a baja-type water-separating fuel funnel, and the problems magically went away. Keep in mind that the 4/5/6 has a very lean carb setup to satisfy EPA, and as a result, carb varnishing (worse with modern gas) can only be corrected with a complete carb disassembly and a soak in real carb dip. If there is water corrosion in the passages, the carb dip will not remove that, and the carb must be replaced.

PVANV,
A 6 year old post? Sorry about that, I should have read everything prior to posting. Newbie mistake I believe!
Many thanks for your professional feedback on this very irritating problem. Looks like a Baja filter is in my future!

Not a problem. BTW, we use an off-brand (not actual Baja brand) filter funnel that actually has better filtration, has carbon in the plastic to eliminate static, and is less expensive.
