I have a Nissan 9.8 and there is a tilt lock which was not in my older tohatsu engine. I am just concern that if I hit bottom the engine wont adjust and ruin my transom since tilt is lock. The instruction did not mention any tilt lock just tilt handle when moving motor up.
Thanks

Re: Nissan 9.8 tilt lock?

My new Nissen 4 stroke 9.8hp has a tilt lock that releases the engine to tilt up only when it is in gear. The engine can only be started in neutral and
when the engine is running or stopped in forward or reverse gear, then and only then can you tilt the engine. Hope this helps.

Re: Nissan 9.8 tilt lock?

The tilt lock should be disengaged when in Forward. That's how it is designed. What is your model? The P model (remote control) has a different tilt mechanism from the F (tiller) model, BTW.

In any event, if you are motoring in Forward, the thrust of ANY motor will hold the motor down, so it's still not a good idea to ground.
