Nissan prop with A17 stamped

I just bought a 1989 Ebbtide Dynatrak with 1989 90HP (NS90A) motor. I am not able to find the prop size but there is "A17" stamped on the propeller blade.

Does anybody know the diameter/pitch for A17 or is it a generic ID? According to the owner, this is the original prop that came with the boat.

I am looking to buy a new prop and use current prop as spare.

Thanks

Factory prop:

Defying common sense it is a 13.54 dia x 15.75 pitch. We never could get an explanation from Japan as to why they didn't call them an A16.

Re: Nissan prop with A17 stamped

Thanks Tohatsu Guru!

I spoke to my local Nissan/Tohatsu dealer and he recommends that I get a Nissan prop because after-market props will tear up your prop shaft or bearings. It has something to do with incorrect hub size or another. I never heard this before but this is my first Nissan outboard. I've had Mercury and Evinrude in the past and used after market props with no problem.

Can someone attest to the dealer's statement?

60 years boating and on here forever I've never heard of that happening on here or in my travels.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised that Nissan props are made by a major prop manufacturer not Nissan.
Fear not if the prop is intended for your motor, regardless who makes it ,it will work without causing damage.

Oddly enough, Tohatsu/Nissan makes/made their own props. They are a little thicker on the blades than the generic Michigan props you will normally see. The aluminum also has a slightly higher tensile strength. The result is a better quality prop (not necessarly the best design). IE The original equipment props don't tear up as easily. As to generic props causing damage to the engine...I agree with Steelspike, its a load of crap.
