Hello, I am getting NM2K plugs and I was wondering, should I order the more expensive shielded plugs, or will the regular plastic ones work? Also, what is the spec on the wire?

What is a NM2K plug?
If you mean a NMEA 2000, the NMEA specification requires the use of shielded cables. Anything other is non-compliant to the standard.

If someone is marketing "shielded" cables as a better alternative, you're being taken for a ride.

Yes, i mean Nmea 2000. I'm using lowrance drop cables, and I am just replacing the connectors. I can get shielded and non sheilded connectors. It seems like the original plastic ones were not shielded. Should I get shielded ones or stay with the regular plastic ones? I am using the devicenet spec 120 ohm shielded CAN cable.

Maretron uses metal screw caps. Can’t find any claim of shielding capabilities in their documentation. Only ruggedness

Unless you are making and breaking the cables on a regular basis, plastic connectors will suffice

Ok, Ill buy the plastic ones, they are about half the price of the metal ones too
