Re: NMEA 2000 network
Anyone out there running this setup? I have two lowrance units that i was thinking about linking, is this setup worth the hassle and extra money? I do like the idea of my units sharing info, but i don't like the idea of them sharing one tranducer. I'd like to get someone's opinion that has this setup and what they think of it. Any info would be helpful.
I've been looking into setting up one of these networks for fuel management, and from what I've read you wouldn't be able to share transducer information between the units anyway. The bandwidth of the sonar data is prohibitive from utilizing the NMEA 2000 network. Seems like you could share GPS data, Engine sensors, temp, fuel managment, and speed information from network devices, but not sonar.
Because of my faulty fuel gauge, which is part of a modular assembly on my 96 Four winns, I am thinking that I can create a network to my Lowrance X510C fish finder with a Lowrance EP-65R level sensor and Lowrance N2K Network Starter Kit for about $130.00. A lot cheaper than trying to replace my dash module.
