I need to add an NMEA device into a new boat, been advised to use N2K Tee the code given is:
CONNECTOR, N2K TEE #010-11078-00
Am I correct that any NMEA 2000 compatible Tee will be OK, I can find plenty of Garmin Tees, but not NTK

The beauty of the NMEA standard is that everything is compatible.

I have parts from three or four different manufacturers in my system.

Thanks for that ..... there is a follow on question ....

I’m adding instrument to my boat. Boat install is standard NMEA 2000 backbone, hence NMEA Tee. This uses 5 pin round branch connector.
The instrument I ‘m adding uses Deutch DT06-04S connectors. (rectangular 4 pin) – pic attached

I asked manufacturer, they just said this needs a field wiring of harness to fit NMEA

Option 1 …. Can you buy a Deutsch DT06-4S to NMEA round adapter ?

Option 2 … Can I get a simple NMEA drop lead (as short as possible) to which I will attach a female DT06-04S

If the instrument has a Deutsh connector it is not NMEA 2000 compliant device.

There are a bunch of adapter cables available to convert various proprietary components to NMEA 2000 hardware but most are specific to the propriety device in question. The manufacturer should be able to tell you want cable you need.

The harness cable uses Deutcsh connectors, it is an NMEA2000 device, and require CAN high, CAN Low, +12V and ground to run. It is normally plugged direct into engine harness which uses Deutch Connectors. Manufacturer has told me if no such connector then cut off plug & hardwire in (which I prefer to avoid)

It's not as simple as splicing in a connector.

You need a Gateway (translator) to pull engine data into NMEA

What motor are you trying to tap into?

The "instrument" is most likely J1939 (standard engine network CAN bus stuff, like our cars run that also uses CAN_H, CAN_L, +V and -V), would need J1939 to NMEA 2K gateway/translator as DB says in order for a NMEA 2K setup to talk to it........Dyke off that 4 pin Deutcsh connector and put whatever mating connector the converter you buy uses on the J1939 sensor side that will mate them up (or just hard wire it that side) then just connect the NMEA 2K of the converter into your NMEA 2K network "backbone".

A converter is going to cost ya though, NMEA 2K is a extra special "proprietary" CAN bus network protocol specifically made to make money for the proprietors don't ya know....

The speed control is made by ZeroOff, they have discussed with Volvo who confirm compatability, and with FourWinns who advise that it can connect directly into the dashboard harness just pick up CAN_H, CAN_L, +V and -V. Then it will work, no converters required.
I guess I'll have to try it out ..... was juts trying to find 'plug' way of doing it ... but ZeroOff said just cut off their plug and wire in direct.

That would explaun whay they have Deutsch connectors ...

Both ZeroOff and Fourwinns say to just hook up CAN_H, CAN_L, +V and -V to those connections in the dash harness, so assume those guys understand things - I don't. Though there are clealry marked such connections on one of the dash cable schematics.
