Sorry. The comment on the tunnel should read "moves water efficiently as I plane" not "as a plane".

Since you have a hydraulic plate that will save a bunch of time in the dialing-in process!! Thats fantastic. Lets get the motor broke in and then look at what we can do to get the r's where they should be.

Make sure the gas is fresh and 87 octane. Also use only Champion plugs. We use the QL77JC4's in our crossflows. If the carbs havent been soaked and had kits installed, lets do that now.

Its worth addressing MCM's question about the deflectors too.

What I was trying to get at with respect to the deflectors is that for no more than they cost they should have been replaced while they were accessible.

Re: No. 1 piston - Bad!!!!

MCM: I believe I can remove the head without having to change the gasket again, considering I have not taken the boat out for a spin yet. So, I'll remove the heads in the next few days and replace the deflectors.

Dhadley: The carbs were cleaned in May and I ran the boat last in June(thus the resulting bad gas), Would I need to redo them? I do currently have installed the QL7JC4's. In June I took 3 of my buddies fishing, so I do believe that the motor was lugged and that might have contributed to the damaged piston.

After I install the new deflectors, I will resupply with fresh gas and I will take it to the river nearby and run it. What is the recommended break in procedure?

Thanks Again for your help guys!!

Ok, new deflectors and getting the carbs done. Sounds like a good "to do" list.

How about the water pump? With a fresh rebuild thats part of the deal too. Oh -- not just the impeller, the whole deal. If it were mine I'd use the high pressure pump too.

As to the break in, after you've run for a little bit you'll need to check and re-torque the head bolts I beleive.
