My trustworthy old 2 hp yamaha (used on my tender /dinghy in salt water- never flushed due to impracticality of finding fresh water offshore)
has stopped pumping water.
How do I access the water pump and cooling passages? There seems to be no intuitively obvious way of getting to the pump and it's impeller.

Re: No cooling

You do need a manual to do it right or perhaps you should take it to a serviceman. Since you have not flushed it and I imagine not had it serviced, you will probably break the bolts that will be corroded. You will probably also need to change the thermostat and clean the poppet valve and housing. The impellor change requires the gearbox to be removed. Warning.... Many techs don't like working on "blow motors" because they have usually been neglected. Good Luck!

Re: No cooling

what adam said. especially with the normally neglected blow boat motors. I refuse to work on any blow boat stuff due to the attitude of most blow boaters. the winds free and everything else outta be. every blow boat I have ever had to tow broke strictly due to lack of maint.
