Ayuh,....... I agree, the 1st thing to do on a 3.0l, is to add a canister type fuel filter,.......
But,....... The one in yer picture can't be used on an I/O powered boat,.... It's gotta be a metal canister,.....
The one in the picture, Can be used on an Outboard powered boat,....

They do make a version with the aluminum bowl but after a year in salt air they can be !@#$%^ to get off. I think that Racor filters are the best but extra gaskets add more possible leak points, and then there's the hassles with removing the bowl. I just use the OEM style ones like I have for years.

I’m for sure adding a water separator. I’m just getting rid of the can style inline filter between the pump and carb.

We hated the racor filters when we were making generators in one of my prior lives. they would always leak
