Re: No drive to the prop

The raw water intake impeller turns all the time unless the internal shaft is broken. The drive goes into neutral but the u-joints and impeller are spinning all the time. If you ran it at all without water going to the intake grates then the impeller is hurt. Also revving to 3k in neutral will outpace the water supply to the intake grates and probably hurt the impeller also.

It had the muff thing on it with water going full blast and I only blipped the throttle so hopefully luck is on my side!?!

Re: No drive to the prop

So here is a little more information on my no drive issues. So last night I'm screwing around with it and decided to put it in gear (lever all the way foward with the engine off). I then went to the prop and was able to spin it without any effort, like the trans was in neutral. I also noted the double cable setup that sits on top of the valve cover doesnt move when the throttle arm is pushed all the way foward and the throttle arm will not go to reverse. And lastly, the button on the bottom of the throttle arm has no movement when pushed on. With all this going on could this be a simple issue of a cable sticking and not allowing the lower unit to not engage all the way? Sorry to be such a retard when it comes to boats! Thanks again for all the help!

Well after all that I'm about 95% sure the issue IS with the throttle lever! The button is not popping out so its staying in throttle only mode. I assume there is a spring in the back side of the button?!? How do I get the mechanisim on the back side off or how do I take the lever off the mechanisim to possibly access said spring?

Which controls do you have? There have been lots of different kinds made.

It says "Quicksilver" on the name plate. The throttle only button is in the bottom center (at the pivot point) of the lever if that helps.

Well after all the worry all it is is the throttle lever isn't allowing the lower unit go into gear. Thank goodness! Got the shifter assem off and trying free everything up. Lots of old grease, dirt and corrosion. Anyway, thanks for the help!
