I have a 69 electric shift Evinrude, it goes in reverse but kicks out of forward when you give it throttle, I took the lower end apart but didn't see any metel in case, does anyone know what the resistance of the shift coils are.

Re: No forward

Keep in mind it's not an electric shift but rather a hydro-electric. If you apply electric shift logic you'll get very confused.

I don't have the solenoid values but I'm sure Joe Reeves will be along shortly and I'd bet he does.

Where did hydro come from? You put 12v to coil, it makes a mag field-pulls spring to engage gear.

My mistake - I got 69 55hp from somewhere.....Since we don't know what size motor you're working on it could be an electric shift.

Re: No forward

The coils should be approx 8 ohms. They draw 1.5 to 1.9 amps.

So, didn't you check out the electrical system before tearing the lower unit apart? 90% of the shifting problems are in the wiring or shift switch. ESPECIALLY the push button shift switch. You need to check the voltages at the blue and green wires (wires not disconnected).
