no idle

hello to all I am new to your site and first I must say it is great!!! And now to my problem I just got a 1988 stratos 256v with a 70 hp evinrude. The problem is it will run all out but will not idle or run on any lower rpm. Since I live in the upper peninsula of Michigan ( gods country to us) there is @ 3 foot of ice on the lakes so I have plenty of time ti figure this one out. Thank you any help would be great.

99% dirty low speed jets in the carb. get the kits, total clean, removing high and low speed jets. must be immaculate. you need a special screw driver to remove the jets. the low speed are at the top front of the carb, high speed deep behind the drain screw on the bottom front of the carb. i made my own tool with a belt sander.

Double, Before you clean the carbs, check spark at idle. If you do not have any, the low speed portion of the stator could be bad. Hopefully it is dirty carbs.....
