no pee holes

I've searched and searched and can find no threads that address my two questions. 1) my 83 Merc 70 hp has no pee holes, water pumps out of two horizontal openings at base of cowl. Is that normal? 2) my engine does not have power tilt/trim. I have the chance to pick up to pick up a T/T unit from a 71 115 hp. Could I be lucky enough for it to fit my 70. Any help is appreciated.

My '77 55hp Evinrude is the same way, water comes out of the vertical slits with the exhaust. You can add a pee hole, there is a thread on these forums to show you how.

Thanks glengold, now I don't feel like my engine my blow up each time I start it. If water coming out of those slots is normal then so be it, if it makes Merc happy then it makes me happy.

Now if I can get some help on the t/t unit my day will have been made.

There should be a **** hole on your Merc. It shoulld be located in the center of the back under the "70" sticker (The part of the cowling that the 2 sides hook onto) and it points to the drivers (Starbord) side of the boat. Like in the picture

Thank you for the reply. I just went outside with a flashlight and looked for the pee holes you describe.

I can find four additional small horizontal slots and above the 70 hp sticker there is rubber hose extending from the housing that is about 1/4 in ID. tommorow in the day light I can pull the cowl and investigate more closley, but for now I can't see anything that looks like a small round pee hole.

The little rubber hose is it.
If it doesnt pee something is wrong.
might just be clogged.

Thanks Shrike, I'll check it out to see if it is plugged. I'm pretty sure no water comes out of that hose. Sorry it took so long to say thanks but haven't been on line for a couple of days.

O am not sure where you are at, but in my neck of the woods,
wood bees make 'nests' in holes like the pee hole on OBs
Take time to clear any obstruction!

Just to update The rubber hose had a blockage in it, unforunately it was a small piece of black rubber. I think we all know what that is. Now I get a new experince of installing a new impeller.
