No Pee stream - have i done damage?

Hi guys - so I took out my Merc 90 today when I set off pee stream was coming out good with good pressure. Went for a spin for about 6 miles stopped came back still had pee stream when I left plained all the way back - when I got home no pee stream (stupidly I don't check very often when driving!) it could potentially have been running 15-20mins at about 3-4000rpm with no water :-/ what the likelihood ive done serious damage? still seemed to run the same as before?

Model / serial of your motor ?------Did you hear a warning horn ?----I can not believe the folks who put a lot of faith in the " pisser " as you never look at it after start-up.------Installing a new impeller every 3 years is the best way to go !!

They hardly ever pee at idle with the thermostats open. I wouldnt worry about it.

sorry guys useless with info as ever! I believe its an '85 merc 90 i6 brown band... also my nearest slip is 4 miles away is it asking for trouble driving there?

You never could have run 15-20 minutes if you had no water pressure. It would have toasted the engine long before that.

You will have to do a compression check to see if you have done damage. serial number?

I have a Yamama 150 and sometimes it will pick up some grass or little debris and the peek line will get stopped up. Try to stick something into the line and see if it is just plugged up. For it to run for that long it's most likely just plugged.

If the motor stopped pumping water, usually the top cylinder would seize from the heat. If the compression on all 6 are good, she did not overheat, or at least not very much.

Those telltales clog up easy. Pull the telltale holes off the block and start her up. She should expel water within 20 sec.

Start it up and feel the exhaust cover and the cylinder water jacket cover around spark plugs.----They will heat up quickly if pump failed completely.

finally put some wire in the hole and shes as good as new... just one thing i noticed and i havnt before although dont look at outboard idling but it seems to spit like a fan of water out the back into the water beneath the powerhead under the little metal trim - is this normal?

Most outboards spray out water from the exhaust relief holes.----Do you have an owners manual for your motor ?

When my pee hole stops up I run a foot of .085 plastic weed wacker string down the pee hole. That usually clears out the discharge hole. Keep some in the boat. You run through vegetation or mud the hole will plug up.
