No Power / Flooding / Bogging down in Reverse?

Hello again guys

We just replaced the main shaft in my friends 1990 OMC King Cobra with a Ford 460.

Anyways we finally figured out how to get it all back together. It goes fine in forward, but in reverse it bogs down and has no power. It wants to almost stall and has almost no rpm's

You can hear a lot of air rushing near the air filter / carb. This doesn't make any sense to me? I though perhaps it had something to do with the shift switch / motor interupt switch?

The shift cable is adjusted properly. It shifts into gear fine. It was okay before we broke the shaft. We didn't touch the motor in the meantime.

Thanks for reading! Happy Boating.

I'm not an OMC guy, but.....
I would definately look closer at the ESA......
You are probably only getting power to 4 cylinders.....
For some reason it is not disengaging in reverse....
Is everything lubed on the shift assembly?.....

You were correct! Thanks for the great advice.

I disconnected the harness which is for the 2 switches and it stops bogging down

I guess it just needs to be adjusted properly... once the motor is put back in!

We broke the distributor trying to remove it. I guess it corroded away and was barely working. Can't wait to see how much better it runs once its replaced.
